Invictus is a film directed by Clint Eastwood who is a very popular director and actor. He also directed Gran Torino, it’s an other film who speak about discrimination and racism. Invictus tells the true story of Nelson Mandela and a rugby team. Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team to help their country. William Ernest Henley’s poem “Invictus”, written in 1875, is said to have been a powerful source of inspiration for Nelson Mandela during the 27 years he he was kept as a prisoner in South Africa because of the Apartheid. Mandela was released from prison in 1990 and four years later became South Africa’s president.
My favorite scene is when the Springboks go in the neighborhoods. Most residents were black people and there was many children. They all cheered Chester probably because he is black too, the only one of the rugby team. The Springboks played rugby with children and I found this moment really touching, it was the first scene showed that Mandela’s plan worked.
An other very touching moment is when Mandela tells his story to François. He tells him his pain when he was in prison in Robben Island but he always kept hope and faith. It’s not the same conditions but that is what François has to do too. He has to keep hope and motivation in order to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
I think « Invictus » is a film for anybody. I don’t like sport or history but this film is so touching! It's like we were living the moment with the rugby team, mainly during the final.
This film show a president who’s really interested by the future of the country and who care about everyone. I found Morgan Freeman very good as Nelson Mandela. He seems like a very humble president. That’s why this film is even more beautiful, it is a tribute to Nelson Mandela who died recently, in 2013. He was a symbol of peace and this film perfectly show it. I think that this film gives a lesson of humanity. It is the way whose anybody should act, with heart and humility. I am very surprised by this film and I think it’s actually one of my favorite right now. Thank you to make me discover it.
