Imagine you are a sailor drifting in the enormous Pacific. And you`re lost. You can choose one of three directions and reach a land of your dream or you can make a wrong decision. You are not sure about the right direction but u have to choose. How should u choose? You can use your logic, knowledge, intuition or just rely on fate. And how happy you are when you find yourself in a right place! And so am I.
There comes a time in everyone's life when you have to choose your profession and my life is not an exception. Many people clearly realize what they want to do. And that’s great. They finish the school, enter the university, study whatever they like and enjoy their life. But my story wasn’t so simple. I was racking my brains trying to figure out what kind of work I would like to do for my life. Every time it was a different dream.
When I was a child everyone was sure that I would be a future artist. I always had a passion for drawing. And since all my walls, furniture and whatever may be painted with gouache and crayons was painted, I think my parents noticed my passion. Once I even managed to dye my hair ends blue. It was time when I had to have a first haircut in my life.
Then I grew up, and came time of flight attendant passion. I imagined myself standing in a gorgeous stewardess costume and saying “Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome aboard Ukraine Airlines flight, direct from Lviv to Barcelona. ” It seemed awesome. Then was time of economy, political and journalist passion. But when at the end came time to choose i was completely lost.
One day there was a meeting with an American student in our school. He was talking something about ecology but not that was a point. I have never seen native English speaker before and I was completely enchanted. During all his speech I couldn’t stop watching at his mouth. I knew it wasn’t very politely or better to say it wasn’t politely at all, but how could he pronounce the words so perfectly? Then at school we had to fill in some questionnaire regarding our future career, and since I had no idea of what should I write there and moreover I didn’t have much time to think about I wrote the first thing that came into my mind. I wrote: translator. And only after I wrote that and came home i really started thinking about it. Why not? Maybe it is the very thing i am looking for? And the more I thought about it, the more I liked that new passion.
But there was a problem – my English was too poor. My school teacher didn’t pay much attention to our English and so did we. And when you have only few months to learn it from the scratch- it’s a great challenge. But I like challenges. Besides if you have a strong desire and you do know what do you want –it is not such a big deal.
And now I am here, sitting and writing this composition. I did it! And of course finding of your own professional identity is not a matter of days, months or even years, it is a matter of a lifetime, but I am on a right way, because my ship definitely have entered the right harbor.
