INTRODUCTION TO ESSAY:
Young people are travelling more than ever before. They are therefore becoming more and more educated on foreign cultures and their traditions. But what are the negative and positive aspects of travelling the world at such a young age?
ESSAY:
Today’s generation of young people are exploring the world more than ever. They are collecting whatever they learn on their way around and keep everything in their cultural backpack. Almost all of them, even the most aimless of today’s travelers, want to use their experiences when they go on in life. They pick up key knowledge of both culture and language on their journey in foreign cultures. It is very positive for the generation to be able to put their cultural knowledge and these experiences on their resume, when they are applying for a job.
What has made it possible for young people to travel abroad and have opportunities for experiencing the world that never existed before, is that many countries are easing up on their travel restrictions letting young voyagers enter and explore. Furthermore it is possible to live in many parts of the world for a small amount of money. Additionally the airplane fares have been decreasing since airliners are finding increasingly more ways to save money.
Many expect the young generation of voyagers to become the future CEOs and business creators of the U. S. but although there might be many upsides of travelling the world there are also some downsides. First of all some voyagers might get lonely when experiencing the world on their own and get homesickness, while others might never even come home again because they are afraid.
Living abroad has given them another view on life and how it should be lived. Therefore they are afraid that coming home won’t be as exciting. Many young voyagers even fear getting caught up in their American lifestyle again and losing the incentive and passion for traveling and living abroad.
Another negative aspect of so many young Americans travelling abroad and into other cultures is that they bring along their own culture. They may actually, without even knowing it themselves, be changing the foreign culture they visit. Therefore many cultures are becoming Americanized. This is partly due to the huge globalization in world trade, but also because it has been made so much easier to travel abroad.
The last and perhaps most negative aspect of so many young people travelling abroad is that they are leaving their country and actually cheating the country for some of the resources. That is because the young people are getting a good education in the country they are born and then afterwards leaves the country to live abroad. This way the money, which their country has invested in to their education, is kind of lost, because of the fact that the country cannot benefit from it. This creates sort of a GDRish effect where young people take advantage of their country’s good educations and then moves out to work elsewhere. This was the exact same thing that happened to GDR, where people moved away after their education and the GDR was therefore drained from labour.
