First of all, I will do my best in my major studies in order to get ready for becoming a diplomat, who will be fully capable to work in international organizations. Speaking of IR, international politics, international law and economics are the main subjects. From the field of international politics, I want to learn about international relations, international cultural studies, international organizations etc. and about environmental and development problems, migration, refugee, human rights, conflict issues and other. From the field of international law, I would like to study about environmental law, international migration policies in various countries, refugee-related international treaties and international human rights. In the economic sphere, I am eager to learn about environmental and sustainable development. Together with international relations, I would also like to study social sciences and humanities, because analytical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills are essential for diplomats. As well as in international politics, many political rational things can become more important than rationality itself, so it is essential to bring up the ability to maintain harmonious interpersonal relationships and negotiation skills. I am interested in international organization activities, such as UNHCR. I plan to work there and in such a way help members of particular social group of religion, nationality or people who may be persecuted for political reasons. Also, I have an interest in North Korean migrant rights issues, the unification process, and sudden changes that may be occurred by emergency in North Korea. It is important to note that in the past, race and religion caused a lot of conflicts, but recently environmental refugees or “Climate Refugees’’, are becoming more serious problem. Learning International Relations, I want to know more about refugees and gain experience by practice. First of all, I want to learn about the definitions, causes, types of refugees and refugee organizations, the Convention (including regional agreements), refugee status and the international community which can help them. Second of all, I want to know about repatriation (homecoming), people who have no nationality, about UNHCR and internally displaced persons (IDP) and organizations which research refugees such as IGOs (UNHCR, UNRWA, UNICEF and IOM) and NGOs (USCR, ICRC, Amnesty International, Oxfam, World Vision and other). Fourth of all, I suppose to practice in real time and examine different circumstances which can happen with refugees and their protection. 2) Special activity I think that other activities are also important. I want to collaborate in groups, learn humanities and social sciences, participate and gain experience in activities such as “Model United Nations”. Due to this activities (experience) I want to practice and learn the rights of refugees, ways to advocate them, including refugee protection and human rights. I believe that with this experience I will have a chance to work in UNHCR. Strictly speaking, I plan to participate and practice in Washington center programs (practical course/ study subjects). I want to take part in forums (Leadership Forum etc. ), attend seminars and events for strengthen global capability. Studying IR subjects and participating in activities after admission I want to improve the ability to work in team, improve language; character and emotions which are important to me. Moreover, conflicts and wars appear in the areas where refugee problems are strongly influenced and through these circumstances, places of work are often changing, that is why it is essential to develop the skill to accustom to different areas and practice in such refugee organizations. In the university, I suppose to learn about local culture, to improve sensibility; law and communication skills to protect and help refugees. In the future, I'm going to get acquainted with the experts, network activists from Twitter and Facebook, hold a number of ongoing activities through the local network, and share with other international organizations in solidarity. To sum up, I would like to say that I believe that it is possible to develop and improve all these skills with the help of Seoul National University and to become a perspective successful student and diplomat.
