An important task is implementation of the stability and maneuverability of the vehicle at high speed. To realize this, the rate changing only the rear wheels and rotating the steering column insufficiently. To enhance the stability, maneuverability and speed cornering differential was used. The differential is designed for the distribution of torque between the wheels, which allows it to rotate with unequal frequencies when the vehicle is in cornering or over bumps. In the cornering, each wheel two-axle vehicle moves along its trajectory, characterized by a certain radius, they have to rotate at different frequencies, so that there is no wheel slip relative to the road.
In the straight running on a flat surface left and right wheels are rotating at the same angular velocity. When cornering, for example, to the left as a result of relative rotation of the right wheel must rotate faster vehicle differential case and the left slowly. Right wheel speed increases as the speed of the wheel left decreases, and conversely. The smaller the turning radius, the greater the difference in the angular velocities of the left and right wheels. However, the main angular velocities of the leading wheels of the car remains the same - does not change the angular velocity of the differential housing, which depends in gear in the gearbox on the angular velocity of the engine crankshaft. The distribution of the torque equally between the left and right wheels is beneficial when driving on the highway with paved and relatively low resistance.
