The forest of Fontainebleau, the green lung of the Ile de France, covers a forested area of 25 000 hectares and 1 600 km of forest roads and walks. The trees represented are: oak, pine and beech. For nature lovers, are sheltered in the forest deer, roe deer, wild boar, fox ... More than 200 species of birds and the extraordinary variety of insects.
The forest of Fontainebleau is a place known internationally for climbing block, is one of the best climbing sites in France. This discipline is practiced on rock of a low height and does not require ropes, it is done on blocks of sandstone characteristics of this forest.
These sandstones are famous for the shapes of rocks known by lovers of climbing. One of the peculiarities of the escalation in "table" is the existence of course. These routes of different levels are marked with arrows of different colors: yellow (easy), orange (quite difficult), blue (difficult), red (hard +) and black (for the better.)
Sites climbing best-known: the Cuvier, the Gorges Apremont (Barbizon), the Gorges of Franchard (Fontainebleau and Arbonne-la-Foret), the Three Gables (Arbonne-la-Foret, Milly-la-Foret , Voodoo), Cul de Chien (Noisy-sur-Ecole), the rock of Jouanne Dame and the Elephant (Larchant).
Near Paris, and thanks to its landscape, the forest of Fontainebleau has inspired many artists including painters of the Barbizon School. Later, the Impressionists were several tables in this forest.
Our gites are located south of the forest of Fontainebleau and the basis for many climbers coming from all walks of life. We are delighted to welcome them in our gites where they come to rest in order to leave the next day to their great delight, to conquer other rocks.
